The East Village Washroom is a transparent architectural form that is at once landscape and building. It is present and hollow. Anchored in utility, animated by activity. Pairing a public washroom program with the fastest growing sport in North America in the form of a free outdoor public pickleball court, located in Calgary’s East Village, demonstrates that this is a vibrant, livable urban neighbourhood for a range of ages, abilities and vulnerabilities. The East Village Washroom is a colourful neighbour, filled with play, visually striking, clever and active.
