In partnership with local stakeholders, Public City and Wood Anchor designed a community-focused development initiative for Wli, Ghana, near the renowned Wli Waterfalls. The project enhances local infrastructure with social and economic spaces, aligning with the community’s goals for sustainable growth. Key features include a new market area and shaded gathering spaces that offer relief from the tropical climate while supporting local art, education, and social events.
Public City prioritized native vegetation and locally-sourced materials to ensure the structures harmonize with Wli’s natural surroundings and to support local artisans. Additionally, sustainable water management practices were integrated to handle seasonal rainfall, helping protect both built structures and the natural landscape. This initiative reflects Public City’s commitment to creating resilient social infrastructure that strengthens community identity, fosters economic opportunity, and respects Wli’s unique cultural and environmental context.
