In collaboration with Ecole Riverview’s community, Public City designed an Outdoor Learning Space that supports both playful engagement and curriculum-based activities for Kindergarten through Grade 6 students. Built to be durable and low-maintenance, the space includes diverse zones for experiential learning. A water cistern collects runoff from the gymnasium roof, and steel runnels allow students to direct water flow into an infiltration area, teaching practical lessons about water management. Native plants and a ‘turtle’ gathering circle provide spaces for storytelling and Indigenous teachings, merging ecological education with cultural reflection. This thoughtfully crafted environment enriches outdoor learning, making nature an active part of the educational experience.
