Working with the City of Winnipeg and Charleswood Rotary Club, Public City developed a wayfinding and interpretive strategy for Assiniboine Forest to enhance visitor experience while respecting the natural landscape. A low-impact, color-coded trail system with tree banding and weathering steel panels supports intuitive navigation along forest paths. Strategically placed panels display trail maps, and future additions will introduce interpretive signage on the forest’s cultural and natural history. A comprehensive guideline document establishes standards for signage and infrastructure to ensure that all additions are cost-effective and minimize environmental impact. This thoughtful approach deepens visitor connection to the forest and promotes its long-term care and appreciation.
